The Municipality of McDougall is a township in the near north in the District of Parry Sound. It was named after William McDougall, one of the Fathers of Confederation. In 2000, the Township of McDougall amalgamated with the geographic township of Ferguson, and created the Municipality of McDougall.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Operations is responsible for leading the Operations and Infrastructure development, including strategic leadership, management and administration of a broad operations portfolio including Roads, Fleet Maintenance, Parks, Facilities, Capital Projects, Public Works, Water and Waste Water and Waste Management.
Professional Qualifications
Ideally, the successful candidate have a post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or a related field and a C.Tech, CET or. P.Eng. Your professional qualifications will include at least five years’ relevant public works experience in a public or private sector environment and at least four years’ experience in a management or supervisory capacity complemented with a successful history and in-depth knowledge of best practices in managing a sizeable operation. Your communications skills are exceptional and you can work well with all levels including the CAO, Council, management team, staff and service partners. You have excellent people leadership skills, a collaborative approach and are adept at building relationships and a culture of respect and accountability. You will also possess the ability to manage finances and have experience in budgeting, financial reporting and capital asset management. To complement these features will be a service excellence mindset and ideally an ability to find efficiencies and improve processes within your department.

Your Opportunity to Make a Difference
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services/Clerk, the Planner will process planning applications including zoning amendments, official plan amendments, plans of subdivisions, condominiums, site plans, and minor variance applications. The Planner will also manage key projects for the department including reviews of the Official Plan, Comprehensive Zoning By-law, and Site Plan Guidelines.
The position requires the provision of excellent customer service in responding to zoning and planning related inquiries, liaising with Municipal, and Provincial governments, and providing professional planning advice to the Corporation, the public and potential applicants. The Planner will also provide interpretation and recommendations on various planning matters, and present comments and recommendations to the Committees of Adjustment and Council.
Professional Qualifications
We are looking for a team player who is customer service focused and who has the following:
- University degree in Planning or related discipline and eligibility for membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) preferred.
- Three years’ experience as a Planner, preferably in a municipal setting.
- Demonstrated experience in the review and preparation of various planning applications.
- Strong working knowledge of the Planning Act and other building/zoning/property maintenance- related legislation/regulations/standards and related enforcement processes.
- Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software considered and asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, project/time management, research and report writing skills, communication, presentation, problem-solving/mediation, staff leadership, and computer skills.
