Information for Candidates
Candidate nomination period and Third Party Advertiser registration opens on May 1, 2026. Review the Notice of Nomination for Office for the 2026 Municipal Elections below for further information. Nomination Procedures For Municipal Candidate, 2026 Municipal Election (PDF)
Nomination Period
Nominations may be filed with the Clerk from May 1, to August 20, 2026 Monday to Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., excluding statutory holidays.
On Nomination Day which is Friday August 21, 2026, the Clerk will accept nominations between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Nomination Process
A nomination paper (Form 1) must be filed in person by the candidate or by an agent. The nomination paper must have original signatures. The candidate will be required to show proof of identity and qualifications. The nomination paper must be accompanied by the required nomination fee; $200.00 for the office of head of council and $100.00 for all other offices. Payment to the Municipality must be made by cash, cheque, money order or debit card.
Candidate Qualifications
A person is qualified to be elected or hold office, who, as of the day he or she files his or her nomination is:
- a Canadian citizen;
- at least 18 years of age;
- a resident of the municipality, is the owner or tenant of land in the municipality, or the spouse of such a person;
- is not legally prohibited from voting;
- is not disqualified for violation of financial requirements or violations of requirements for filing financial information;
- is not disqualified by legislation from holding municipal office.
